Disability Service Conference

The Australian Disability Service Conference, hosted by One Community, serves as a platform for disability service providers from all over Australia to come together and share their expertise. This conference is specifically designed for the workforce and is organised by the workforce itself.

Orana and Volunteerability staff Adam, Annette and Rachel, had the opportunity to attend and present at this prestigious conference in November.

The team discussed the various benefits of volunteering for both organisations and individuals with disability, highlighting how it can serve as a valuable tool for everyone involved.

Adam, Annette, and Rachel emphasised the significance of clearly defining volunteer roles to prevent any potential exploitation of participants. They also discussed the importance of having robust policy and procedure frameworks in place to prevent volunteers from being taken advantage of.

Throughout the conference, the Orana team had the opportunity to showcase several work, health and safety videos, created by the talented team at Volunteerability.

The conference highlighted that engaging in volunteer work is more than just an act of kindness. It is a transformative experience that provides empowerment, a sense of belonging, and the chance to make a meaningful impact.
