Moments that Matter: Celebrating the Everyday Achievements Across our Community
From personal milestones to new skills and unforgettable experiences, these are the moments that make our community matter.
The past few months have been filled with achievements, milestones, new experiences, and plenty of reasons to celebrate across the Orana community.
Employees have continued to build skills and confidence in the workplace. Kirsty exceeded her personal goal by assembling an impressive 1,455 dollies in a single session, while Sally successfully embraced the challenge of learning a new role packing hinge kits. Simon’s remarkable growth in both his workplace skills and social confidence has been truly inspiring, with his increasing independence extending well beyond the workplace and into everyday life at home.
Caleb played an important role in supporting Orana’s sustainability efforts by dismantling furniture for recycling, Phillip enjoyed the opportunity to work outdoors alongside the Murray Bridge External Services team, and the Murray Bridge kindling team worked diligently to prepare high-quality firewood products to meet increased demand during the winter season.
Community participation continued to provide meaningful opportunities for connection, enjoyment and personal achievement. Ben and Client Coach Mitch enjoyed a memorable 23-kilometre bike ride along the coast at sunset, Ingrid spent the day perfecting her mini-golf skills. Rebecca enjoyed an unforgettable visit to Adelaide Zoo, where she met AFL stars Taylor Walker and Connor Rozee. Community Day Options participants celebrated National Doughnut Day with a sweet trip to Krispy Kreme.
Creativity and learning have also flourished. June explored her artistic side through dot art activities, Raymond developed practical life skills during vehicle maintenance sessions, and participants embraced friendly competition during Community Options’ first indoor pickleball tournament.
At home and in the community, people have continued building confidence, independence, and meaningful connections. Cory has settled into Supported Independent Living at Amaroo and has been making the most of Community Options activities, while housemates Michelle and Ingrid have been enjoying outings to parks, beaches, and local attractions. Michelle has also continued an inspiring personal health and wellbeing journey.
There have been plenty of celebrations too. Mai enjoyed an early birthday celebration with friends and staff at Galway Apartments, while Colin and Orlando celebrated milestone birthdays at Netley’s monthly BBQ Day. In Mount Gambier, Gee achieved the impressive feat of correctly tipping all nine AFL games in a single round, while Brendon moved one step closer to obtaining his driver’s licence after successfully completing his Hazard Perception Test.
We were also proud to see the impact of our partnerships extend beyond Orana, with more than 500 native plants grown by our Loxton team distributed to schools throughout the Riverland as part of the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board’s Youth Environment Leaders and Precious Plants programs.
Adding to the smiles at Netley were visits from long-time volunteer Kerry and her dog Chester, who brought some much-appreciated pet therapy to the Netley office, and Lucas, whose daily Transformers show-and-tell sessions continue to entertain and delight coworkers.
These stories are just a snapshot of the many achievements, friendships, and experiences taking place across Orana every day. Together, they remind us that sometimes the most meaningful moments are found in the everyday opportunities to learn, connect, contribute, and celebrate success.
