The Board has been actively focused on shaping Orana’s future, providing strategic oversight and supporting initiatives that will strengthen the organisation and the services we provide.
In late May, the Board joined the Executive Team and senior leaders from across Orana for a Strategic Foundations workshop. Together, they explored Orana’s Vision, Mission and Values, with a strong focus on shaping the organisation’s future and defining the outcomes we want to achieve for the people we support. Since the workshop, our CEO has been engaging with key stakeholders to gather feedback, helping to ensure these foundations reflect the aspirations of our clients, employees and broader community.
Following this consultation, the Board endorsed a refreshed Purpose, Vision, Mission and Vibes (previously Values) that better reflect who Orana is today and the future it aspires to create. The refreshed language brings Orana’s strategic foundations to life by placing greater emphasis on belonging, listening, opportunity and inclusion. Using clearer, simpler and more personal language, it better reflects Orana’s purpose and creates a stronger connection with our clients, supported employees, staff, families and partners.
ORANA’S REFRESHED STRATEGIC FOUNDATIONS
Purpose – To provide opportunities for people with disability to achieve their goals, find belonging and flourish.
Vision – Your life, your way.
Mission – We listen, we connect and create opportunities, we support and celebrate success.
Vibes – Be Kind • Be Brave • Be Me • Be Inclusive • Be Positive • Belong
Together, these statements place the individual’s own goals and choices at the centre of everything Orana does. The six new values replace Orana’s previous values, better reflecting the culture the Board and Executive want to see lived across the organisation each day.
This shift in language reflects a broader shift in direction, from statements that describe what Orana provides, to statements that put the person at the centre and describe the life they are working toward, in their own words. The Board sees this as an important evolution that keeps Orana’s long-standing commitment to people with disability at its core, while making that commitment easier for staff, participants and the community to recognise and live out day to day.
The Board has also continued its work on Orana’s strategic and business planning, ensuring the organisation is well positioned to respond to future opportunities while continuing to deliver high-quality services.
Financial sustainability has been another key area of focus. The Board has been taking a deep dive into Orana’s financial position to better understand where we are today and to support informed planning for the future.
Sustainability has also been on the agenda, with the Board considering the potential implementation of solar panels across Orana’s sites and homes. While still in the planning stages, this initiative has the potential to deliver long-term environmental and financial benefits. Another significant milestone has been the implementation of a new policy framework. This work will strengthen governance, improve consistency across the organisation and ensure our policies remain clear, contemporary and fit for purpose.
While much of the Board’s work happens behind the scenes, every discussion is centred on building a sustainable, well-governed organisation that continues to create opportunities and achieve positive outcomes for the people we support, now and into the future.
