Orana “Netball For All”
The Orana ‘Netball for All’ Cup was held for the second year on Sunday 19th November 2017.
Special Olympics SA with the support of Orana and UniSA, held a netball tournament that saw players with disability displaying their skills on the court.
Orana had a great team of enthusiastic players and for many it was the first time they had played netball. It was a warm day but the Orana team worked together and supported each other to make sure every player enjoyed the day.
The players are looking forward to building their skills in preparation for next year’s tournament.
The day started off with players being taken through a training session run by Netball SA to practice ball skills and get everyone warmed up and ready to play!
Following this, South Australian Police (SAPOL), long term supporters of Special Olympics SA, played an important role in the opening ceremony – accompanying some of the players in the torch relay on their way to light the Olympic Flame of Hope signifying the opening of the competition.
Then the competition commenced! Every player gave their best on the court and there were some spectacular passes, intercepts and goals scored throughout the five rounds of competition. At the end of the rounds, the finals were held with the Black Widows team being victorious and taking out the Orana Cup for 2017!
Well done to all of the players and a special thank you to all of the volunteers and supporters who helped to make it a fantastic day. Everyone is looking forward to an even bigger and better Orana ‘Netball For All’ Cup in 2018.
