Orana Community Options Launch

On Thursday, November 4, Orana Community Options celebrated the official opening of its new location. The move to 8 Marryatt Street in the heart of Port Augusta, a short walk from the main street, Gladstone Square, the public library, Wharflands Plaza, and the Foreshore, will enable Orana to expand its services even further.

“The launch of our relocated Port Augusta Community Options Service was a wonderful opportunity to see the culmination of three years of effort in transferring the day options program into a facility that reflects community inclusion. The success of the day was evident by the good ‘turn out’, interest from the community and the satisfaction on the faces of our clients. Since our relocation into Marryatt Street, our clients and staff have expressed the numerous benefits and opportunities created by the new facility with the central location a key factor. The number of new enquiries in recent weeks for the Marryatt Street service is testament to what is now able to offer for clients who want to be engaged in the community and develop their personal and social skills.” Nick Mihalaras, Orana Chief Executive Officer said.

“I felt privileged to attend the Orana Community Options launch – it was fantastic to see the community and family support for our service, and to see everyone have an enjoyable afternoon together. The clients love our new building, and this has created so many more opportunities for them to participate more actively in the community and have a lovely space to further develop their skills.” Rowena, General Manager Community Inclusion and Developmental Services

Orana Community Options is a mix of centre and community-based activities including:

  • Social Skills, Friendships and Cooking
  • Sensory, Fitness and Outdoor Activities
  • Literacy, Numeracy & Money Handling

The new Orana Community Options boasts a large open-plan kitchen and dining area with new appliances throughout and great opportunities for clients to participate in cooking. There is a sensory room, a large craft area, as well as various versatile activity spaces.

The property has an undercover outside area and a garden that people can enjoy, grow plants, and maintain. Orana Community Options also has a room reserved for members of the community to rent for meetings, consultations, or interviews.
