Orana and Down Syndrome SA School Holiday Camp
Our School Holiday Camp was held at the Woodhouse Activity Centre in the Adelaide Hills, between the 12th and 14th of April. Eight clients attended, and everyone had such a great time!
A bright morning began with everyone arriving keen and enthusiastic at the Woodhouse Activity Centre.
To settle decisions of who was sleeping where, the boys decided to bunk together, and the girls decided to bunk together. Fun was had exploring the Woodhouse “Hooper” Bunkhouse. The group played some games, including a round of cricket followed by soccer later in the day. There was lasagne and pasta, plenty of fresh fruit, some treats of biscuits and ice cream with various toppings to select for dinner.
The clients spent the whole of day two exploring the Woodhouse property further, and the group enjoyed the “Maze” and the adult “Adventure Playground”. For dinner, the caterer invited one of the participants to help cook, and he was very excited and proud of his achievements. The group played games during the evening, and everyone had a smile on their faces when the glow sticks were given to take to bed. Everyone was worn out from the fresh air and outdoor activities but remained up until 11 pm.
On the last day, a breakfast feast was had by all, indulging in freshly made pancakes with many more toppings to choose from before packing up and waiting to be picked up.
The best experience was that people caught up with people they had not seen since 2019, and even more so, new friendships were made over the three days.
Our next school holiday camp will be held during October – dates to be confirmed closer to the month.
