Lyell is going from strength to strength in his work at the Orana Netley Business Service.

After suffering a severe back injury at a previous place of employment, Lyell joined the Orana ranks seven years ago and is delighted that he made the move.

“It has been like a marriage made in heaven being here,” Lyell said.

He is thankful for all the support he has received from Orana, particularly from his supervisors who have always been encouraging.

Lyell has worked in a variety of Orana Netley Business Service roles including water filter assembly and packaging, wine labelling and linen, but he is most passionate in his current position organising the Mitsubishi service kits.

He is meticulous with his preparation and paperwork, always making sure everything is in order.

After changes in the supply chain process, he has learnt new procedures and improved his mathematic skills with measuring stock weight and dimensions, while adapting to new invoicing processes as well. He has also picked up the economic concept of supply and demand, as well as all the car jargon during his time in the job.

Orana’s Capacity Building team supported Lyell and advocated for him at his meetings with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). He is now on his second National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan and is particularly thankful for the funded fortnightly physio sessions he attends, which relieves his back pain. He also participates in aqua aerobics to maintain his core strength.

While he is limited by what he can do physically at Netley, he has a great support cast in the form of his colleagues who are always willing to lend a hand when needed.

Lyell is always thinking ahead, checking reports, stocktaking, maintaining quality control and politely liaising with customers. He believes that, psychologically, keeping busy and his mind active consequently alleviates his back pain.

He is enjoying a healthy work-life balance, spending quality time with family members when away from work, while also having ears for country music, particularly in a live setting.

While he’s still searching for a specialist to assess his seating arrangements at his northern suburbs home, Lyell is enjoying his time so much at Orana that he can’t imagine working anywhere else.
