Hard Waste Murray Bridge
Mitchell, an employee at Orana Murray Bridge, has played a vital role in the hard waste collection for Rural City of Murray Bridge. The collection of hard waste provides work for approximately 12 employees. Pick-ups are weekly averaging 20 households at a time. Hard waste is brought back to Orana where items for recycling are sorted and mattresses and sofas dismantled to reduce what ends up in landfill.
This high demand service is now in its third year and bookings from residents are frequent. Mitchell, along with two other employees, Brian and Jenny, assist with administration tasks such as answering phone enquiries and entering bookings onto the computer. Their assistance has helped staff immensely by minimising their administration tasks enabling them to focus on supervision of the production.
More importantly, it is providing an opportunity for skills development and giving responsibility to employees to help support this valuable service to the Murray Bridge community.
Mitchell is outgoing and has a keen interest in computers. When asked what are the benefits about this job Mitchell commented: “I like speaking to people and being able to help my supervisor. It’s been a great learning experience, understanding how the hard waste collection is organised. Also it’s nice to know I am valued, I love doing it”!
At Orana Murray Bridge we aim to provide diverse work activities and development opportunities for all employees. It is critical to explore a person’s full potential and where possible enable and support individual growth. It is truly satisfying to have Mitchell as part of the team.
