Down Syndrome SA families sharing experiences with the medical community

On Monday 9th November, Down Syndrome SA had the great honour of supporting three of their families as they spoke to students from Flinders Medical Centre about their experiences with the medical community for diagnosis and care for their children with Down syndrome.
As usual, the children were the stars of the show, with Theo, Sophie, and Owen holding 140 first-year medical students captive with their antics! Theo also brought along an extra surprise for everyone with his new baby brother Uly. Despite the children’s attempts at distraction, the medical students were captivated by the stories that Monique, Jen, Taryn and Adrian shared about their experiences with the medical community.
Every year the feedback received is that this is an incredibly, meaningful event for the students as they have the opportunity to gain insight into the person-centered aspects of their future practice. The team at Flinders Medical Centre are always very grateful to the families for their willingness to go to such an effort to help their students grow as professionals.
Thank you so much to all who were involved.
