Brain Injury SA Embrace Life After Brain Injury Award 2021 Winner
June Wright has lived with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) for approximately thirty years and requires 24/7 support, yet continues to achieve goals, hindered but not deterred by ABI. June has lived in one of Orana’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes for almost twelve months. Throughout that time, she has enthusiastically participated in day-to-day activities in her new home.
Earlier this year, nominations were accepted for the Embrace Life After Brain Injury Award, organised by Brain Injury SA to recognise people living with Acquired Brain Injury who have made significant progress throughout the year. June was nominated for the award by Linda, an Orana staff member who helped June and her family find her new home, given the fact June achieved the long-term goal of moving from her parent’s care to supported living.
When June moved into her new home with Orana, her positive attitude shone through, and the transition to SIL accommodation was a success. June adjusted to her new surroundings, which were considerably different to what she had been used to. However, she embraced the changes the way she had always done so at every disruption in her life, with grace.
June was announced the overall winner of the Embrace Life After Brain Injury Award on Monday the 16th of August at Brain Injury Awareness Week Launch held at Adelaide Oval.
Congratulations June, you are an inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to meet you!
