A hairy assistant at Orana

International Assistance Dog Week was celebrated at Orana in August, recognising all the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs helping their owners fulfil an independent life.

Cheryl, an Orana employee at Netley, has been supported by a lovable four-legged assistant for the last two years. His name is Winston and he guides Cheryl everywhere including to work, shopping and the bank. He loves to chew his with bone toy at home, says Cheryl.

Winston is a Royal Society for the Blind guide Labrador Retriever-cross, who has become a beloved workmate at Orana Netley Employment Service.

“He is very good therapy for everyone at work,” says Cheryl.

Orana supports Cheryl by providing her with employment options and she celebrated five years working with Orana on the 12th of August.

She loves to work with Sally, her supervisor at the Clipsal dollies’ assembly area. Cheryl is very versatile and able to work in all areas including Mitsubishi and Bio Security. Winston, of course, is always by her side.

In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys arts, crafts and walking with her inseparable four-legged friend.

Congratulations Cheryl and Winston, keep up the good work!
